Unique self-help environmental manuals by Enviro Health Consulting, Inc., are designed for the layperson who wants a healthy home and is glad for the chance to do something about it. Topics include air quality, mold, and electromagnetic field issues.

Now there is a professional inspection packet available for the individual who has the background to become an environmental home inspector - see last title below.

Using the self-help manuals - Key Benefits

bulletYou will be walked through the empowering process of improving your indoor air quality and reducing electromagnetic fields.
Doing your own evaluation first is interesting and fun. You will enjoy a satisfying feeling of accomplishment. Make it a family project.
bulletIn these self-help manuals, I share my thought processes as if you and I were inspecting your home together. I take you carefully step-by-step through the inspection.
bulletWhere you can easily purchase equipment, I tell you what equipment you will need and where to buy it.
bulletIf the equipment is costly or unavailable, the manual specifies the additional information that you would learn from a professional inspection. This way, you better understand the limitations of what you can do and what is further available to you. In some cases, you can make "guesstimates."
bulletIf desired, you can make a list of questions and arrange for a telephone consultation with me after completing the manuals - see Services section, Phone Consults.
bulletIf you proceed with an Enviro Health professional evaluation after completing your workbooks, you will get more out of our assessment - see Services section, Enviro Inspections.
bulletYou will learn a great deal "thinking through" a home inspection - an education useful for the rest of your life.

How to Evaluate and Reduce Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) in Your House

bulletThis 200+ page manual deals with AC and DC magnetic and electric fields, high frequency, microwave radiation, and ionizing radiation. Topics include wiring and grounding issues, microwave ovens, computers, and cellular phones. Order a gaussmeter separately.

Readers can decide which of three levels they want to inspect on. They can do a basic inspection without a licensed electrician and purchasing or renting only a minimum of equipment, about $100-250, or they can get more involved with an electrician if needed. Equipment costs are about $350 for a Level 2 inspection and about $1000 for a Level 3 inspection. Level 3 is close to what I would do on-site, only I have still more equipment. Levels 2 and 3 may require some work with a licensed electrician.

Hunting for a Healthier Home - Mistakes to Avoid when Moving In

bulletWhat can't be changed once you buy the house or rent the apartment is first addressed: issues of location, power lines, and dampness (mold).
bulletThe manual then walks you through an EMF evaluation of a prospective home. A gaussmeter and a sensitive voltmeter are recommended. Although most people will stop after the AC magnetic field section of the manual, other types of radiation are discussed that are measured in the standard Enviro Health EMF pre-purchase inspection.
bulletOther pre-purchase environmental concerns, such as mold, asbestos, lead, buried fuel tanks, gas leaks, etc., are discussed.
bulletTips are given to avoid costly mistakes involving your health as you move into a house. If you have chosen a healthy home, don't harm the environment by what you change as you move in.

bullet

Before You Build or Remodel: Planning a Healthier Electrical System

bulletGuidelines are presented so that your new home will have as low EMFs as possible. This manual should be reviewed with your licensed electrician to assure compliance with local electrical code requirements.

bullet

Improving your Drinking Water Quality

bulletThere is no manual planned for water treatment systems. See the reverse osmosis product page for information.
